Ok so something that's been a gnat in my ear lately:  is one artist having different styles a help or hindrance?   I've weighed the pros and cons and still don't really know what I think.  I do it a lot in my own work (work in different styles) but I'm not sure if it's better to only work in, or at least show other people, one style.  Please weigh in if you can. Thanks!

I'm only just starting out in the art world (as a student) but this has been in my mind as well; so many of my classmates have clearly defined styles already and ways of doing things and I'm just so indecisive, I want to do it all haha. But sometimes I wonder if I should try to concentrate on one particular "style" and perfect it, even if it costs me deftness in other styles.

I see it as regarding regular commercial work, different styles is important, almost crucial in survival. But for creative sake, i.e. building fanbase, audience, a "voice" of sorts, having a style is VERY important. I've always viewed it as, there's a ton of guys who can draw and draw well, but who are the ones who have that unique-ness that people can gravitate to and become fans of. There are tons of guys who have made careers out of their "style". I think ultimately, it's who/what kind of artist do you want to be.

I think that's my simple 2 cents...

Are you making it out to LBCC this weekend Andrew?

I think its something you can't continuously worry about. Just give each piece whatever "style" or treatment you want. If its quality then people will notice. Regardless of wither its consistent or diverse.

I prefer different styles. Keeps me from skipping over the artists' posts. I find that after a while, if an artist keeps posting the same style, I get bored. But that's just me. I wish I could change my style. I think you have a very nice range. From a natural painterly style to a strong black/white euro comic book style. Jack of all trades, for sure!
